Developing a personal brand for yourself and your business is a big deal, whether you’re starting your own business or trying to advance in your career. Think of your favorite stores to shop, or your favorite celebrities, they all have a brand of their own. Brands can pertain to businesses or to people. You should know, there is absolutely no way to separate your personal and professional brands. They are what makes you, you.
Here are three key points to help you develop your own brand:
- Always Look Your Best
You appearance matters. Looking your best is not just for special occasions or going to the office. The next time you are getting ready to head out, look in the mirror and ask yourself these question: 1. What does your appearance say about you? 2. If I meet a potential client today, will I be able to introduce myself and be respected? 3. Would I feel good if I ran into someone I haven’t seen in a long time? If so, there’s no such thing as just running around, because you never know who you might run into.
2. Your Social Media Profiles
What do your social media updates and tweets say about you? People who are interested in doing business with you and potential employers, don’t just look at your well put together resume. They look at your social media profiles to get an idea of the real you. With the growth of social media, more and more businesses are now making the transition. They want to know what kind of influence you have and what you represent. Pay attention to what you put on social media or at least take the time to make certain contain only accessible to family and close friends. Keep in mind though that social media is also a great way to network and promote yourself.
3. Your Social Activities & Friends
Your network determines your net worth. Like it or not, that’s a fact. If you’re spending a lot of time in people that aren’t going where you want to go, that’s a lot of wasted time. I don’t care how close you are, you are setting yourself back big time. Instead focus on investing your time in people and activities that support your dreams and goals.
